Little Rock, Arkansas
Budget $400,000+
Architect: Rogue Architecture
Contractor: Matt Foster Construction
Completion: Spring 2020
The Oden Longhouse is a custom single-family residence designed for a young professional artist couple in a historic downtown neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas. The clients wanted a home that would fit in with the historic character of the neighborhood while still standing out as of its time and place in history. We began by looking at surrounding contextual homes, many from the late 1800s and early 1900s and started with a slightly Victorian form. By stripping away the ornament of a traditional Victorian design we came up with a Contemporary rendition of a very classical design that blends well with its surroundings while remaining clearly of its time.
The residence is just under 2,600 square feet with three bedrooms and two and one-half baths and includes a small storage garage and two-car carport in the rear yard accessed from the alley. The main living, kitchen and dining spaces were designed to be functional and unobtrusive. The living area doubles as a photography studio and a small sitting area at the bay window includes a tucked-away office nook and media closet.
